  • #Kyoto Sightseeing

Have a GOOD NATURE moment with fragrant Chinese tea!
At the workshop table located at the back of the lobby lounge on the 4th floor of GOOD NATURE HOTEL KYOTO, Mr. Etsushi Katayanagi offers a Chinese tea ceremony workshop twice a month.
Why don’t you enjoy smiling conversation with Mr. Katayanagi and participants while tasting more than 5 kinds of fragrant Chinese teas carefully selected by Mr. Katayanagi according to the theme each time, and GOOD NATURE sweets which are gentle to your mind and body.

What is Yuntaku Tea Ceremony??

In this workshop, we will introduce the history, culture, and brewing techniques of Chinese, Taiwanese, and sometimes Japanese teas, and have a tea talk session where you can enjoy the original taste and aroma of the tea.
Basically, we prepare several kinds of different teas (about 5 kinds) each time, and we explain the process, the place of origin, and the story behind the tea, so that you can feel the difference in taste and aroma.
We hope that you will be able to taste and smell the different flavors and aromas of the teas, and find your own favorite flavor and aroma.
We hope that you will be able to find your own favorite flavor and aroma through this event. Especially for many people in Japan, you will be able to enjoy a brewing method and a flavor and aroma that you have never seen before.

What is Yuntaku?

Yuntaku is an Okinawan word meaning “chatting. I would like to create a place where people can relax and enjoy conversation over a cup of tea.
The name of the workshop expresses Mr. Katayanagi’s wish.

Lecturer: Etsushi Katayanagi

Etsushi Katayanagi was born into a temple family on Mount Hiei, and grew up surrounded by tea trees.
As a child, the whole family would pick tea and make tea as an annual event.
When he was a student, he entered a tea house, where he encountered the world of Chinese tea and was shocked by the manner, taste, and aroma of the tea.
Currently, he holds workshops at lodging facilities in Kyoto City on an irregular basis, and also holds Chinese tea ceremonies at Kodokan and Totousha.
